How not to delay your happiness

Hey it’s Deep.

Every week I send you tactics and inspiration to get you off your ass and into the thing you know must be done to transform your life.

This week, let’s talk about your happiness.

Do you ever catch yourself thinking, "I'll be happy when..."?

When I get that promotion.

When I lose 10 pounds.

When I find the perfect partner.

I've been there. We all have. But here's the truth:

Happiness is a choice that you make and a skill you develop.

It's not a destination. It's not something that happens to you. It's something you can actively create.

Right now.

Let me break this down for you.

Most of us treat happiness like it's a prize at the end of a long race.

We think if we just work hard enough, achieve enough, or acquire enough, we'll finally unlock that elusive state of perpetual joy.

But that's not how happiness works.

Happiness is more like a muscle. The more you exercise it today, the stronger it gets. And just like going to the gym, it requires consistent effort and the right techniques.

Here's how you can start flexing your happiness muscle:

1. Choose positivity: This doesn't mean ignoring negative emotions. It means actively looking for the good in each situation. Had a tough day at work? Maybe you learned a valuable lesson or strengthened your resilience.

2. Practice gratitude: Every day, list three things you're thankful for. This simple habit should rewire your brain to focus on the positive.

3. Cultivate relationships: Invest time in people who uplift you. Strong social connections are one of the biggest predictors of happiness.

4. Set meaningful goals: Work towards something that excites you. The journey itself should be a source of joy.

5. Embrace challenges: View obstacles as opportunities for growth. This mindset shift can turn setbacks into stepping stones.

Remember that even on tough days, you have the power to choose your response. That choice is the foundation of lasting happiness.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. "But Deep, you don't know my situation. It's not that easy."

And you're right. It's not easy. But the steps you need to take are simple. And more importantly, it's worth it.

Think about it this way: If someone told you that you could significantly increase your happiness by dedicating just 10 minutes a day to specific exercises, wouldn't you give it a shot?

Well, that's exactly what I'm telling you. And I've seen it work wonders in my own life.

Here's your happiness homework for this week:

1. Pick one practice from the list above

2. Commit to it for 21 days straight (it takes about that long to form a habit)

3. Track how your mood changes

I bet you'll be surprised by the results way before 21 days.

And here's a bonus tip: Accountability can be a game-changer when developing any new skill, including happiness.
